(Page 1) Marshall Saline Co Mo July 24th 1862 Dear father I take this present opportunity to let you know that I am well at present. I received a letter from James and was glad to hear from you all and to hear that you was all well and doing well. James wanted to know what had become of James Milliken hors [sic] and watch. His hors [sic] is here and is well tended to and his watch I have it. Tell him I would like for him to come as soon as he can for we can't do without him. I would like to be at home awhile with you and mother but as it is I cannot for some time. There now is a[n] order that all loyal men shall come into camp with the soldiers. What it is for I do not know but for some good. I reckon this war must come to a close by some means or other and that soon and I think by loyal men coming in we will then know who is our enemies. I am in the hospital with the sore eyes. Father my eyes are getting so weak that I must close. No more at present but remains your son. S.C. Zeigler to Harrison Zeigler.
