(front) On January 17, 1908, it was sixty years since the student body of Central Wesleyan College bade Dr. Theo. S. Henderson farewell, following a great religious awakening. Dr. Henderson, who later was elected a bishop, was, at the time, head of the Methodist Board of Evangelism. So far as we can determine, the meetings, held at Warrenton, were the first of the kind, sponsored by his depart- (back) ment. Later meetings were held at Warrenton by H.E. Rompel and W.H. Heppe, both of German Methodist origin. A product of Iowa Wesleyan and the German College, Dr. Heppe had been a professor in the College and a minister of the English-speaking Methodist Church at Mt. Pleasant. The Religious Emphasis Week of today is an outgrowith of the meetings held sixty years ago.--Z.F.M. Explanation of Picture.--Dr. Theo. Henderson, the evangelist, is in the center of the front row, where he is flanked by co-eds, who felt especially indebted to him for his insight into their religious problems. He is wearing a derby. Dr. Geo. B. Addicks, who was then president of the College, is at the extreme left end of the front row. He is wearing a light-colored felt hat. Dr. Addicks died only a few years later. He had previously served on the faculty of the German College at Mt. Pleasant Iowa.--Z.F.M. [Z.F.M. is Zwingli Frederick Meyer, 1911 graduate of Central Wesleyan College. This appears to have been written by Meyer in 1968.]
