Dear Father

I know [sic] take 
the present opportunity 
to let you know that 
I am well at present 
and hope these few lines 
may find you and famly [sic] 
in good helth [sic] I have 
knot [sic] had a leter [sic] from 
home for some time and 
I thought that I would 
write once more to see if 
you was yet in the 
land of the living 
William Hall is on 
his way home 
his time is out Leevy Roy 
is also on his way home

on furlow I sent you
one hundred and fifty 
dolers [sic] by him I wish 
that you would pay 
Hiram for the land 
if you can and get 
the deed in somes [sic] ones 
naim [sic] so that Downen 
cannot get a sent [sic] 
if I had anything 
to do with it he 
never would get a sent [sic] 
well for this we hav [sic] 
sad news hear [sic] at the 
present wee [sic] hav [sic] lost 
the father of our Contry [sic] 
Abriham Lincon [Abraham Lincoln] who
was assasnated [sic] on the 
15th of this month 
but I think that
wee [sic] hav [sic] a man thare [sic] 
yet that will run

to write to you at present 
Uncle is well at present 
Well this candel [sic] gives a poor 
lite [sic] and my pen 
is bad so I will 
close for the present 
excuse this poor leter [sic] 
so no more at present 
but remains your son
